SUNDAY, OCTOBER 20 (8:30 A.M.) – SCARECROW FESTIVAL 5K:
This family event is scheduled to coincide with Cambria’s Scarecrow Festival. It will start at Shamel Park, 5455 Windsor Boulevard in Cambria (off Highway 1 at the north end of Cambria) and head south toward Fiscalini Ranch. The course is next to Cambria’s pristine coastline and is intended to introduce the trails and views of Fiscalini Ranch to more residents of the central coast. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 20 (9:00 A.M.) – RUN FOR THE HILLS 5K:
This 5K takes place at the Saunders Vineyard at 7300 North River Road in Paso Robles and is presented by the Hearst Ranch Winery with proceeds going to benefit Georgia Brown Elementary School. The race starts at Hearst Ranch Winery’s tasting room in Paso Robles, winds up the hills on dirt trails through Saunders Vineyard and into hills dotted with oak trees. The course then loops back down to finish at the tasting room. The event includes a post-race festival where food and wine will be available for purchase. Participants will need to bring ID or, if they are under 18, a parent or legal guardian. Late registration begins at 8:00 AM and the race starts at 9:00 AM. Parking will be located on site. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26 & 27 – SLO ULTRA TRAIL RUNNING FESTIVAL:
These runs will have a new location this year, taking place at Lopez Lake. There will be a 26.2 mile trail marathon on Saturday and a half marathon, 5K obstacle course, and kids obstacle course on Sunday. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 27 (9:00 A.M.) – BAYWOOD PARK OKTOBERFEST FOUR MILE RUN:
Start by the boat dock at 1391 – Second Street in downtown Baywood Park and run an out and back 4 mile course on roads adjacent to the bay. Day of registration is $20 for the race and the first 150 signups get a pint glass and drink ticket for beer, coffee, or hot chocolate with their registration. Registration starts at 7:30 AM and ends at 8:45 AM with a 9:00 race start. Plenty of divisions from 8 & Under to 70 & over with prizes for each age and gender. Cash awards for breaking male or female overall course records, which are 18:31 and 21:33 respectively). All proceeds support Central Coast cross country programs.
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 17 (8:00/8:15/9:15 A.M.) – WINE COUNTRY HALF MARATHON, 5K, & KID’S GRAPE STOMP:
The race will start and finish at the CaliPaso Winery at 4230 Buena Vista Drive in Paso Robles. The course takes you over rolling hills, through picturesque vineyards, and along the Salinas River. After the race, enjoy breakfast, music, a raffle, and the awards ceremony. All runners receive a tech T-shirt and the male and female winners of the half marathon win their weight in wine. Medals and a wine glass to all half marathon finishers and awards to the top three in 13 age groups in both races. The half marathon begins at 8:00 (walkers at 7:15), the 5K at 8:15, and the Grape Stomp half mile for ages 10 & under at 9:15 AM. SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 17 (2:00 P.M.) – ARROYO GRANDE YOUTH TURKEY TROTS:
A series of races by grade level for boys and girls, starting with 1/8 mile for kindergarten and below up through a mile for 7th & 8th grades. The races will be held at Arroyo Grande High School, 495 Valley Road at the track. Boys and girls run separately with a turkey to the winner, a chicken to the runner-up, and a game hen for third in each race. Sign-up at the AGHS track prior to the races. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 28 (8:30 A.M.) – AVILA BEACH TURKEY TROT:
This event will have a 5 mile run and 2 mile walk. Check-in is at The Promenade on Front Street and the courses will go out-and-back along the Bob Jones bike trail. A donation of $20 is suggested and the money will go to the Food Bank Coalition. All ages and abilities are welcome at this new event, to be held at the Atascadero Lake Pavilion. The suggested donation of $20 will help support the El Camino Homeless Organization’s mission to aid the underprivileged in the north county where they host a 50 bed transitional shelter.
